Passing the Olympic flame

It was Woodstock's day today (amongst some other towns and villages in North Oxfordshire) where the Olympic torch was run through the town to throngs of people. Our local MP, Dave, came to cheer us all along (together with a few security folks). I positioned myself close to where the changeover was about to take place and where Dave would meet the flame carriers. Generally a happy occasion, with its fair share of hawkers - I am guilty of tussling with the press who wanted their own shots of our great leader and took it as a challenge to get as near as possible. I add no commentary to these pictures - I wanted to take people in a busy situation, get them face on as well interesting poses. More of us at play. A couple of people as accent and anonymous, these shouldn't be too difficult to spot.

  1. Some great images of our leader John...you could sell those for sure!! He's certainly photogenic. You've given a great feel to the day which looks aptly jubilant.

    1. Thanks Penny, with the number of "real"photographers the possibility of competing with them both on the "required shot" and the route to the "sale" leaves me in no doubt about reportage. I'll leave it to the professionals, though they seemed relatively benign I did the impression that the "pro's" were very intent on getting their shot whatever. Dave was also very complicit in the process, lining up his smile when the torch handover occurred etc. It just had Leveson bells ringing in my head all the time - how interdependent they were on each other.

    1. Thanks Catherine, this bustle isn't for me. I have agreed with my tutor that I will attempt a "sense of place" in a Funeral Director's establishment (no cadaver shots!). I think the opposite sense of place to this circus!
