Coming to the end of a long and interesting week. My exhibition at Oxford Artweeks, coming to close today after a week, has been the most successful ever - 5 commissions (4 very large prints and cheques cashed) plus one other, 6 other prints sold, a couple of portrait interests and a healthy profit in cash terms. I had quite a few people seeking me out having either been on the web-site, or that have remembered me from last Artweeks.
I've had confirmation that I will be writing a photography column for a quarterly Arts magazine, my first interviewee has confirmed and I should be meeting the photographer before the end of May, well in time for a copy date of July for the September issue.
Looks like I'll have more time to spend on things as (very) early retirement seems extremely likely.
But most curious was an approach by a gallery in New York that appears to be interested in representing me. Their email said that they have been watching me and have viewed my web-site before approaching me last night. This might be normal for other photographers, but it's the first time I've had an approach - so it will be interesting to see where it goes.

Thanks Eileen, I have exhibited at Oxford Artweeks for the past three years and I think that that persistence is starting to pay off.

ReplyDeleteThanks Vicki, a bit of an up and downer, but from a photographic perspective positive throughout. I'm a bit dubious about the gallery approach though - we'll see.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering what the latest is on the gallery approach John. Also, which Arts magazine will you be writing for? Such a lot seems to be happening for you and it's all good so far (except for the ankle of course).

I am sure that my work isn't good enough for the gallery http://www.agora-gallery.com/, it seems a kosher offer - except I think they may be more interested in my custom rather than my work, so my theory at present is that if they want my work (extremely unlikely) they will contact me again. The magazine is ART (http://issuu.com/rwabristol/docs/rwa_art_spring_2012_www?mode=window&backgroundColor=%23222222) which is published by the RWA (http://www.rwa.org.uk/). I'm really looking forward to this, I have spoken to two photographers Chris Friel and Tom Hunter (both of whom I have written about in my blog, and both of them have posted what I've written either to their web-site or Facebook page). My first interview is a week today. And yes the ankle is still a pain! I've been photographing in the Holywell Music room and the Ashmolian today and it hurts!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good attitude to take John.I've had a look at the RWA and it looks an interesting magazine and gallery. Talk about from the sublime to the ridiculous. One minute your into Fine Art and the next you're taking photographs at a rock concert - such virtuosity!
